Bookshelves are one of the most common pieces of furniture that you can find in almost any home around the world for the simple reason that a lot people like to read. Whether you own a collection of classic novels or volumes of work-related reference books, it makes perfect sense to get yourself a good bookcase or two for storing these books. At first thought, choosing the right bookcases for your home may seem like a mundane task. After all, what could you possibly want to look for in a bookshelf? Anything that provides enough space for your all books should be fine, right? Well, not all the time.
Now move everything back on to the shelves. If your shelves vary in height survey your categories. Some books, like children's books, tend to be taller by nature. Return your bigger books to the shelves first as they will likely have fewer places they can fit well. You have two options for tall books if you do not have taller shelves. On a stand alone unit may be able to use the top of the shelving unit. Or place the books horizontal on your shelf, spine facing out so they can easily be read.
Then there is the opportunity to make the bookshelves yourself. And even that is not all that difficult. One of the easiest ways that I know about is to use old bookshelves, cut off the top, attach a roof and add in some dividers for your own creation. About the hardest part of using used bookshelves is that some of the materials are very difficult to paint. So you may have to spend a little extra time sanding or priming the old shelves to make way for the new. You can also add trim and affix appliqués to finish off your project.
