A few years back, homes and apartments were not built with ceiling lights. Many of these homes that did not feature ceiling lights had light switches that connected to an electrical outlet. During this time, floor and table lamps became a very common item in stores because they were needed to light homes. Depending on the type of light needed and décor of the room, some common types are: floor, table, ceiling, hanging, and desk lamps.
Candles offer a flickering glow that is perfectly suited for romantic interludes or soft, peaceful light that adds cozy comfort. Scented candles add a pleasant fragrance that can be matched to season or mood.
There are many ways to decorate or improve upon your living room. You can get some new sofa sets, get a new coffee table, buy a new rug or just rearrange your furniture. But there is one thing you can do that will make a significant different to your living room, that will not cost a lot of money. That one thing is to get a nice looking floor lamp. Getting a lamp will improve the lighting in your room, but it will become more noticeable during the night when your house starts to get dark.
Lamps. For a softer look later in the evening, lamps are the most popular choice; their light is soft and diffused and lamps can be place exactly where you want extra light. Some are designed for placement on a table, others stand alone, and some are meant to be mounted on the wall.
Accents & Highlighting- Draw attention to a fireplace with overhead recessed lighting or track lighting fixtures. Alternatively, wall sconces on either side of the mantel will both emphasize the fireplace and offer more lighting for the entire room. An up light situated behind the object can highlight pedestals, figurines or floor plants. Add additional layers with multi-tiered hanging lamps or wall/ceiling wash lights. Accent lights placed in alcoves, corners or closed in spaces will accentuate a specific area or piece and give the room a larger appearance.
